TRIP DETAILS
Day 1 - Kayaking at Bandar Al Khairan & Snorkelling
Explore Oman's scenic 'Fjords' and some of the best snorkelling one our kayaking tour at Bandar Al Khairan with its remote beaches and crystal clear waters. In the afternoon we take a drive North West to the famous Wadi Bani Auf.
Day 2 - Canyoning at Snake Canyon 2.0
Our morning starts with a fantastic entry-level adventure for those looking to get a good adrenaline rush and try out some rope work. The challenges start right from the start with a 6m abseil right at the canyon entrance and don't end until we start our hike to exit the canyon. As we keep following the canyon down, get ready for a 30m abseil, multiple slides, jumps and scrambles. Every turn has got a new obstacle for you to figure out. Traverse through the pools in the dark and come out to face more slides, swims and a few BIG jumps, if you are ready for this, as we make our way towards the exit. Our last challenge is a 40-minute hike out of the canyon and we take our well-deserved rest and local lunch under the shade of the palm trees. Visit the local village of Bilad Sayt, trekking through the Gorgete and exploring the local village. A scenic off-road drive to the 1,800m above sea level concludes our day.
Day 3 - Via Ferrata and Local vilalges
After an early breakfast, we head to Misfat Al Abreen, an iconic village that offers panoramic view of the town of Al Hamra, located right across the mountain from Wadi Bani Auf. A quick stop there and we head up the highest mountain in Oman, Jebel Shams. After a light lunch, we commence our hike along the edge of the canyon, the famous Balcony Walk, to the recently abandoned village of Sap Bani Khamis where we have a quick stop for photos and a look at a lake above. We then continue climbing up the scree to the start of the villagers’ old sticks stairway, now the Via Ferrata. The route is protected with a steel cable that reaches all the way up the 200m cliffs, providing assisted climbing for the adventurer with little experience. With the 2,000m deep canyon just over your shoulder, the views are exceptional and a head for heights is most definitely required. This adventure is not for the faint hearted!
Day 4 - Nizwa & Desert
This is a truly cultural experience. We start the exploration of the livestock Souq (Market), this is where you can see real life interaction and relationships among the people. We then head to the old part of the souq, dedicated to craftsmanship. Nizwa is famous for its silversmith work and creation of the best Khanjars, traditional Omani daggers. We them move on to visit the Nizwa fort, it has been fully renovated and tells a story about Oman’s history and culture. After an early lunch we take a 3.5 hour drive across the country to spend the night among the dunes. Enjoy a bedouin set-up of one of the local desert camps and a bonfire in the night.
Day 5 - Canyoning at Hawir Falls & Ras Al Jinns Turtle Reserve
Wake up to a tranquil morning, far away from the hustle and bustle of a busy city life. This is truly one of the moments to savour. After an early breakfast, we exit the desert and head to Wadi Bani Khalid. This is a fantastic day out swimming in turquoise pools of the Al Hawir section, this canyon is a great adventure for everyone who enjoys water fun. With multiple long swims, impressive jumps and plenty of good route finding, this is a fun and less travelled route in Oman. The canyon boasts an impressive waterfall with great jumping points from the timid meter high to the really big stuff. The length of this canyon means that you certainly won’t be left wanting more out of the day! Light lunch at a local restaurant and we drive to Ras Al Had for an evening turtle watching experience.
Day 6 - Sur & Wadi Shab
After an early breakfast we drive to Sur to visit a local fish market and a traditional dhow year, where the ancient traditions of boat building are used to construct exquisite vessels. The market is an iconic impression of the coastal lifestyle with local fishermen, selling their early morning catch. Explore a wide variety of fish that is available in the waters of the Arabian sea. After a lunch at a local restaurant we set to explore Wadi Shab, Oman’s most famous canyon. As we hike, explore some sections of the ancient irrigation system “falaj”, learn about local lifestyle and the challenges the mountain villages face on daily basis. At the end of the trek, if the water level allows, we dive into the pool and swim through a narrow tunnel into a small cave with a waterfall, the scenes inside are fantastic. Our way back is the reverse route with more stunning views ahead. We finish our day with a camp on the beach and a delicious fish BBQ.
Day 7 - Tiwi 1.0 Canyoning & Bimmah Sinkhole
After breakfast we start our canyoning adventure in the local village of Tiwi, this canyon boasts crystal clear pools, hot springs and active waterfalls. The colour of the water crystal clear blue and the route takes us along the greenery of the local farms on the side of the canyon. Be ready for lots of swimming, abseiling off the waterfall and scrambling on this 3- hour journey. We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. On the way to Muscat we stop at Bimmah Sinkhole, famous for its mysterious origin and unique turquoise colour. Take a swim and head back to the capital for a relaxing night at the hotel.
