This entry level ride takes us through Wadi Mayh, about 45 minutes’ drive from Muscat. It is one of the largest wadis in the capital area and it runs close to the village of Yiti. The trail has very little uphill riding and only a few short technical sections. Although this is an easier trip it does take some stamina and strength due to the loose gravel terrain.
This trip is aimed at groups and families who want to explore the natural beauty of Oman without travelling far from Muscat. The trail follows the last few kilometres of Wadi Mayh which is a wonderful example of one of these unique geological formations. The wadi eventually meets the sea and at this point we ride through the water to cross the wadi and into the fishing villages of Yiti. This gives us a glimpse into this traditional way of life and we finish at the beach and have a chance to relax, cool off with a swim and enjoy some lunch.
As the wadi is just 45 minutes’ drive from Muscat we usually plan a 9am departure; this gives us plenty of time to complete the ride and to take a swim and enjoy lunch. The riding itself usually takes one to two hours at a steady pace depending on where we start from but this can easily be extended for those who want to ride further. Once we reach the beach we serve refreshments and have a chance to cool down from the ride before lunch. It’s then a quick change of clothes before a short drive back to Muscat. That’s unless you have opted to add on a nights camping on the beach.
